🧵 Late Night Thoughts & Crochet Business Truths
By Christine • July 15, 2025

It’s 2:22 AM on July 15, and yes—I’m wide awake thanks to insomnia. I have an appointment later this morning from 9 AM to noon, which means I need to be up by 7. Not ideal, but here I am—writing a blog post instead of tossing and turning.
While I was up, I watched a really eye-opening video from Crochetpreneur titled “Lies They Tell You About the Crochet Business.” The video dives into six common myths about running a crochet business, but I want to focus on the two that really resonated with me.
1. Lie #1: It’s Easy—Just Open an Etsy Shop and People Will Buy
I’ve heard this advice countless times: “Just list your items on Etsy and watch the sales roll in.” I’ve personally tried Etsy more than once, and each time, I was left disappointed. Not a single sale came through, and the fees were outrageous. It simply wasn’t worth it for me.
The reality is, running a crochet business is not easy. It takes more than a few product listings to succeed. You need strategy, consistency, and a deep understanding of your audience. Whether you’re selling at craft fairs, on your own crochet website, or even through Facebook Marketplace, success doesn’t come overnight—or without effort.
2. Lie #2: Crochet Businesses Only Sell Products and Patterns
This one also hit home. For the longest time, I believed the only way to earn money with crochet was by selling finished products or crochet patterns. But this simply isn’t true. There are other income streams available to crochet business owners—you just have to explore them. I’m not quite sure what that looks like for me yet, but I’m open to learning.
My next video from Crochetpreneur is called “Before the First Client – What Every Crochet Service Provider Needs to Succeed.” I plan to watch it as soon as I finish this blog post. Who knows? I might be back later today with another post to share what I’ve learned.
Running a crochet business from home isn’t always easy, but it’s something I love and believe in. If you’re also navigating the ups and downs of turning your passion into a business, you’re not alone.
